Literature Text
She sliced into her skin, tears streaming down her face. She looked up at her ceiling, covered in glow-in-the-dark stars. She marveled at them, then looked down at her butchered thighs and wrists. She heard the door creak open, and saw him come in. His eyes widened, taking how she was covered in her own blood, still holding the box cutter. She fell to her side and lay bleeding on the carpet. He rushed over to her and gathered her in his lap, still sitting on the floor. She gave a weak smile up to him and asked:
"Am I beautiful yet?"
"Am I beautiful yet?"

You are Beautiful
She says shaking
To the mirrors reflection
As a tear runs down her cheek.
She hates who she sees and that will never change.
People love you
As her lips tremble
She traces the scars she has left on herself
A painting of her own destruction.
You are Beautiful
She laughs at herself
As she clamps a hand to her mouth
And the tears tumble down.
People care about you
She thinks of her friends
Smiling faces
But they all seem so far away.
You are Beautiful
She bites her nails
And scratches at her arms.

Beautiful
Look at me Beautiful
And tell me how you feel
I know it hurts
I know it tears you up inside
To be unwanted
And tossed aside
So many questions
So many emotions
Running through you Beautiful
With every step you take
Your smile grows bigger
Until you miss a step
And you fall
You fall and everything shatters again
But Beautiful
Listen to me when I say
You've got to look
An watch your path ahead
Any wrong move
Might make you fall again
Look at me Beautiful
And show me how you've grown
Have the tears stopped
Do your dimples show
Are your scars now paled
By the brightness of your smile
Look at yourself now Beautiful

Ugly
On her knees again
Staring at her sullen reflection in the toilet bowl water
Watching, as she thrusts her fingers down her throat
And flushes away the pain
Pale, ashen, skin clinging to her withered frame
Wasting away from the beautiful person she once was
Her distorted body is disintegrating before her eyes
But in her disoriented state, nothing is wrong
The false images she sees on her television screen
Are etched into her mind
They are all she sees
And have stolen her life from her
Her weak knees buckle beneath her
She falls to the cold bathroom floor
Her breath dwindles to a mere word...
